Harrah’s Headliner and Comedy-Magician Mac King invites the public to
jump on board Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour: Nevada Reading Week
2014, benefiting Clark County READS, the literacy initiative of The
Public Education Foundation. Throughout the month of February, King is
partnering with the Las Vegas Wranglers, Sky Zone Las Vegas,
Grimaldi’s Pizzeria and Galaxy Theatres locations in Las Vegas to
collect books for elementary school children in local at-risk schools.
Donate three or more new or gently used children’s books at partnering
locations to receive a pair of tickets to The Mac King Comedy Magic
Show in addition to other exclusive rewards from the host venue.
For four days beginning March 4–7, during Nevada Reading Week 2014,
King will make appearances at four select local elementary schools to
teach the importance of reading and personally deliver the books
collected from the book drive. During the tour’s scheduled stops, King
will perform tricks from his show, read a few short stories and
deliver a book to each student to keep.
“Since the tour began in 2011, my pals from around the Las Vegas
community and I have put more than 7,500 books in the hands of kids in
at-risk schools in the Valley. This year the tour has grown bigger
than ever with even more of my partners on-board to collect books and
further enrich the lives of children through reading,” said King.
“Join Mac King’s Magical Literacy Tour by making a donation and help
us make 2014 a year for the books!”

put terrorists behind bars in Iraq,” said Wilson. “His experience in
the U.S. Navy, his commitment to service and leadership and his

U.S. Armor: Leading the way in ballistic femoral artery and groin
protection with revolutionary new product debuted at this year’s SHOT
SHOW
U.S. Armor, a California corporation, is leading the way in ballistic
femoral artery and groin protection for Law Enforcement and Department
of Defense personnel with a revolutionary new product debuted at this
year’s SHOT SHOW, Ballistic Underwear.
Recently signing a licensing agreement with Armour Wear, LLC the
inventors of bulletproof underwear, U.S. Armor has now taken the body
armor industry to the next level by introducing their design for
Ballistic Underwear.
This revolutionary product now protects the law officer or military
personnel from a fatal gunshot to the femoral artery, an area
previously unprotected by other body armor items worn in the field.
Although an officer’s quality of life would go down dramatically after
a gunshot wound to the groin region, an injury to the femoral region
is a life-threatening situation. If an EMT or doctor is not
immediately present to treat a severe injury to the femoral artery,
the life expectancy of the injured officer is extremely low. A high
percentage of officers injured in this way would bleed to death before
showing up at a nearby hospital. With the new Ballistic Underwear
product, officers can now comfortably be protected in this vital area
from fatal threats that they face every day.
The U.S. military has been using a form of this underwear for a few
years now; the item is called PUGs (Protective Under Garments). The
PUGs were designed to combat IED threats the troops faced overseas in
Afghanistan and Iraq. The PUGs were not designed to stop bullets but
rather the fragmentation being sent out by exploding IEDs. Sand and
debris would blast up from the ground during an IED explosion. Armour
Wear, LLC advanced the concept of pelvic protection by designing a
form of PUGs that defend against ballistic threats to the femoral and
groin region. US Armor’s President Stephen Armellino has stated, “We
believe this product will be a great advantage to all officers in the
field offering protection in a critical area previously unprotected by
body armor.”

Local physician assistant receives specialty credential
Paul Bott, of Nellis AFB, is one of only 108 certified physician
assistants (PA-Cs) nationally to recently earn a specialty credential
called a Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) from the National
Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Bott was awarded a CAQ in Emergency Medicine, a distinction earned by
meeting licensure, education and experience requirements and then
passing an exam in the specialty. He is one of only three certified
PAs in Calif. and 530 certified PAs nationally, to earn a CAQ since
the program’s inception in 2011.
“The demand for certified PAs in the era of health care reform is
skyrocketing,” says NCCPA Board Chairman James Cannon, D.H.A., PA-C,
himself a recipient of the CAQ in psychiatry. “The CAQ validates, in
an objective way, a certified PA’s understanding and experience in a
specialty area. It is good news for the public as these PAs are doing
over and above what is required for state licensure by earning this
valuable credential. It is also good news for physician specialists
who are likely to appreciate PAs who go the extra mile to expand their
skills, adding value to the practice with a clinician who holds both
primary care and specialty certificates.”
CAQs were offered to certified PAs in cardiovascular and thoracic
surgery, emergency medicine, orthopaedic surgery, nephrology and
psychiatry. This year, NCCPA will add hospital medicine and pediatrics
to the CAQ program.
Certified PAs are licensed and certified health care professionals who
practice medicine with physician supervision and bring a breadth of
knowledge and skills to patient care. Though their role in any
particular workplace is determined in consultation with the
supervising physician, certified PAs can take histories, conduct
physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret
tests, counsel on preventative health care, assist in surgery, perform
a variety of procedures and write prescriptions.
For more information about certified PAs or the CAQ program, visit
www.nccpa.net.
