Seeing Hoover Dam can be a Boatload of Fun
Considered one of the top 10 construction achievements of the 20th
century, Hoover Dam is a must-see for anyone traveling to or from Las
Vegas. While spectacular, the more than 1 million visitors that see it
annually typically only see it from one perspective, the top. However
another, more relaxing, option is by paddlewheeler on Lake Mead.
Talk about a southern Nevada tourist’s smorgasbord of fun… The
Desert Princess Paddlewheel Tour Boat that plies the waters of Lake
Mead offers a wide-array of choices for seeing Hoover Dam outside the
typical tour or bus stop.
No doubt, the menu of tours available on the stately cousin of a
Mississippi river boat has one — maybe two –cruises that will satisfy
every tourist’s hopes for a memorable water-borne exploration of the
lake’s scenic grandeur, including Hoover Dam. And they all are all
less than an hour’s drive from Las Vegas.
Here’s a sampling of Desert Princess’ offerings:
Sight-seeing cruise — A 90-minute, narrated sight-seeing cruise
through the lake’s breathtaking Boulder Basin into Black Canyon to
view the magnificent Hoover Dam; $26 p/p, $13 children 2-11.
Sunset dinner cruise — A two-hour Lake Mead sunset dinner cruise that
includes a three-course meal (beef, chicken, fish or vegetarian
entries) and full-service bar service; $61.50 p/p, $25 child 2-11.
Sunday brunch cruise — A 90-minute Sunday champagne brunch cruise
offering a full buffet-style brunch, mid-morning breezes, Hoover Dam
and the camera-straining views of Boulder Basin; $45 p/p, $19.50 child
2-11.
Special events cruise — By chartering the Desert Princess, your
special group — corporate outing, family reunion, holiday or private
party — really gets the special treatment. You can customize your
event to match your needs, including full dining and bar options.
Wedding cruse — A unique, spectacular and memorable setting for that
special day, can accommodate up to 200 and includes wedding cake and
champagne toast. Smaller wedding parties can reserve a Top Deck
package within the regular cruise schedule.
Cruising Lake Mead is a great alternative for seeing Hoover Dam.
